Man-making is my mission.— Eknath Ranade
Eknath Ranade, a visionary leader and social activist, dedicated his life to preserving and propagating the ideals of Swami Vivekananda. His legacy rests on two enduring pillars — the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, a timeless symbol of national unity and spiritual awakening, and the Vivekananda Kendra, the living movement he founded to ensure Swami Vivekananda's vision breathes on — not just in stone, but in the selfless service of thousands across Bharat.
The Vivekananda Rock Memorial stands majestically on a small island off Kanyakumari, at the southernmost tip of India — where three seas meet and a nation's spirit converges. It commemorates the sacred spot where Swami Vivekananda attained enlightenment in 1892, meditating in solitude before embarking on his historic journey to the West that would carry India's spiritual wisdom to the world. Eknathji spearheaded the colossal effort to bring this memorial to life — navigating political resistance, rallying support from every corner of India, and uniting people across caste, creed, and language in a shared act of national devotion. What rose from those roaring seas was not merely a structure in stone, but a symbol of India's unshakeable spiritual identity.

The completion of the Rock Memorial was not the end — it was a beginning. In 1972, Mananeeya Eknathji Ranade founded the Vivekananda Kendra — an extraordinary organization built by ordinary men and women — as a spiritually oriented service mission and a living memorial to Swami Vivekananda. Rooted in the twin objectives of Man-Making and Nation-Building, the Kendra is guided by the conviction that "Service to Mankind is Worship of God" and the national ideals of Renunciation and Service. At its heart is a dedicated cadre of Jeevanvratis, Sevavratis, and Vanaprasthis, alongside thousands of local Karyakartas and lakhs of patrons and well-wishers — ordinary people united by an extraordinary purpose.
